Afternoon Strolls: Dongmyo Flea Market.

Updated: Jul 31

I may have lucked out with my new co-workers, they are beyond nice. Holly, a Korean woman from my office, invited me to come shopping with her at Dongmyo Flea Market. How could I say no?

Dongmyo Flea Market has been around since the 1980s, when merchants started lining the streets with stalls offering antiques, records, clothes, shoes, electronics, foods, etc. Most items are around 1,000 won, so you can shop freely without worrying about money.

The nearby streets have even more shopping (if that's possible). We started off at a local bakery, Holly is a big fan of bread. I've never seen so many types of bread. The smell in there was like heaven...if it was made out of carbs.

The market was a little crowded for my taste (with COVID), but we navigated most of the stalls. I got some new face masks and some imported sweet goods for dessert. Holly got cooking items, groceries, etc. There was something for everyone in that market. I saw about a million potential Christmas presents for people, specifically my Step-Mom (Debbie). I'm not sure Debbie should be allowed to go there when my parents visit...my Dad and I would lose her.

After leaving Dongmyo, I walked with Holly back towards her home. It was a lovely afternoon stroll. We saw a river path, more street vendors, the design plaza (which I need to visit post-COVID), and ended up in a local fish market. The fish market had an interesting smell...but was very cool. You could tell it was all locals, and everything was very fresh. If I ever need seafood, I'll be back (when I have an apartment with a kitchen), and I'll bring Holly to help translate.

I caught a bus back towards my hotel, but not before re-loading my T-Card. Another lovely afternoon, ending with me not being able to feel my feet. I can't wait till I adjust to all this walking.
