Summer Adventures with my Bestie: Showing Megan South Korea (Part Two)

Updated: Jul 31

So it only took me 3 months to finish this...my Fall has been busy, and I apologize. On to the finale of Megan and Jenn adventures in South Korea. One of the top highlights of my summer season.

We woke up for week two, and hopped a flight to Jeju via Jeju Air, picked up our rental from the airport and drove to the Jeju Shinhwa World Marriott Resort for our three day vacation. After checking in, we decided to treat ourselves to a fancy resort Korean buffet, 5/5 stars. There was a dessert bar, freshly made sushi options, steak and leg of lamb galore...we may have stayed and stuffed our faces for a long time and a good time! After becoming too full, we ended the night at the indoor resort pool and spa, and then passed out in food comas.

On day two of Jeju, we visited Cheonjeyeon Waterfalls, a three-tier waterfall also known as “The Pond of God.” We then continued on to the stellar view at the Daepo Jusangjeolli Cliffs which overlooks the sea of Jungmun. After taking many photos at the cliffs, and enduring the winds, we ate lunch at the Cliff Cafe and then enjoyed a sunny afternoon at the beach. It was all fun and games until a wave tried to take me out, thankfully Megan was nearby and prevented me from drowning. We got slightly concerned when we drove back, and the gas light for the LPG vehicle came on...apparently on the island, none of those stations remain open late. We rode fumes to clean up at the hotel, then nearby to dinner, had some delicious Jeju black pork (a signature meal of the island), and made it back to the hotel in one piece.

Day three began with us finding an OPEN LPG gas station. Then the adventuring continued at the Osulloc Tea Museum where we sampled green tea ice cream, Jeju hallabong cake, and different unique coffees. We had some tea samples, did some shopping for gifts, and took lots of fun pictures. After morning tea time, we drove to Jeju City and visited the Dongmun Traditional Market where we enjoyed fresh seafood for lunch and MORE shopping. Ended the afternoon with flights at the Jeju Bee Company. Overall, a great last day in Jeju.

Megan and I hopped a morning flight back to Seoul, and had a late lunch in Gwajang Street Food Alley. We tried some fresh tteokbokki, kimchi pancakes, makgeolli, amongst other street foods and drinks. We walked around Dongdaemun and downtown, took pictures with the I Seoul U sign, and ended the day over some Korean fried chicken, beers, and batting cages with friends.

For Megan's last full day in Seoul, we explored Bogeunsa Temple, that was founded in 794 during the reign of King Wonseong by State Preceptor Yeonhoe, then the highest ranking monk of Silla. It's across the street from the COEX Mall and offers a unique view of the city. We had noodles and tea at the temple for lunch, and then ventured next door to the mall. We saw the Starfield COEX Library, had some yummy cake from Billy Angel Cake Company, and hung out with the sea life at the COEX Aquarium. We ended the last night out in HBC & Itaewon. Some of my friends from Seoul met us, and we made sure Megan had a proper send off, complete with photo booth fun!

I was very sad to see Megan get on the plane the next day, but so thankful for her to come visit me. She is a gem of a person, and one of the best people I know. I am a bit bias, but she is by far one of my favorite people I was blessed to meet at JMU, and I love her lots. I know I can always count on her, no matter where I am in the world, and I hope she knows...she'll always have a guest room to crash in.
