N Seoul Tower: A Tale of a 1,000 Stairs

Cable Car Rides, Locks of Love, Scenic Views, Cheesy Pork Cutlet...all makes for beautiful Saturday afternoon. On September 4th, I joined a friend from work and his family on my first trip to N Seoul/Namsan Tower. We had wonderful weather and lots of fun!


We decided to park in one of the many lot options, and take the Cable Car up to the tower. It's a relatively short ride, but it's a great view of the city. Very cost effective too. After exiting the first adventure of the day, we walked up the path to the tower. On the way up, we took a ton of pictures and looked at all the locks people have left over the years.


Situated on top of the N Plaza, the Roof Terrace is a spacious wooden viewing deck. Many locals and tourists from around the world, leave their "Locks of Love," thousands of padlocks attached to the fence by romantics symbolizing their undying affection.


The Tower was built in 1969 as Korea's first integrated transmission tower beaming television and radio broadcasts across the capital. Since opening to the public in 1980, it has become a much-loved Seoul landmark. The Tower's mountain surroundings on Namsan have made it a popular place to unwind.


Inside the tower there are restaurants, an art exhibition, shops, cafes, and plenty of photo ops. My personal favorite were the bathrooms, check them out, you'll thank me later! After exploring all there was to offer, it was nice to sit and have a smoothie with friends while we enjoyed the view.


We then decided to take the stairs back down towards the car lot and lunch...little did we know. 60 flights of stairs later, we were glad we didn't decide to take them UP to the tower. Also it's a good idea to wear comfortable shoes and clothes when visiting. It felt like a never-ending spiral climbing down that mountain. The stone steps carved into the mountain were intricate and steep.


By the time we reached the bottom, our Pork Cutlet lunch was well deserved. There was soup, Soju, noodles, spicy pork cutlet, and my personal favorite...cheesy pork cutlet. We all stuffed our faces, and I felt like I was in the beginning stages of a food coma. Also I never had so many cups of water in one sitting.


Overall, I am so thankful for the day I had. I got my steps in, enjoyed plenty of good food, saw beautiful sites, and had great company (Thanks Jordan, Sunyoung, and Gia!).
