Lotte Weekend Staycation

Updated: Jul 31

What was meant to be a long Saturday spent at Lotte Tower Seoul Sky, Lotte Aquarium, and Lotte World Adventure turned into a Saturday AND Sunday. This was due to some minor detours and obstacles that life throws your way. In the end, it all worked out and was a lot of fun (and a LOT of steps according to my FitBit).

May 29th and 30th were an adventure for my coworker and new friend Gaeuna and I! First we had a surprise detour to Pyeongtaek to get our other coworker Holly. She just got back to South Korea and needed a ride to Seoul. We hit a major traffic jam both ways, so by the time we got back and changed, we had to run to the metro for our hour long trek to Lotte in Jamsil.

We had a great ticket deal that included all three attractions, but nobody at the Lotte Tower Mall seemed to know where we could redeem it. Great customer service...note my sarcasm. After walking back and forth to a few different places, we figured it out. Good think Gaeuna is Korean or I would have definitely been lost in translation for sure! We stopped for a lunch/dinner snack at the mall's food truck court. We split some shrimp and chicken dishes from a "Chinese American" themed truck. By the time we had our tickets and were no longer starving it was three o'clock in the afternoon!

Luckily, we discovered our tickets were good for multiple weekend days, so we decided to just do the theme park and sky view attractions, and to return Sunday for the aquarium. Lotte Seoul Sky was up first and it was awesome! It's currently the tallest building in South Korea and the fifth tallest in the world. Seoul Sky is located on the 117th - 123rd floors. There were lots of photo opportunities and a glass floor. I'm proud to say I stood on it long enough to look and snap some photos...then I ran away.

Next up, we met my other new friend Charlie (she's from Belgium), and continued our night at Lotte World Adventure. I definitely want to go back! We only had time to do the indoor rides and selfie studio photo room. Everything we went on though was great, and the light parade was cheesy yet satisfying. This place is kind of like a knock off Disney World, with a touch of South Korean flare. Needless to say, we packed a lot of fun in, and after we took the metro home...we passed out hardcore.

Sunday was Lotte Aquarium fun day! I made us brunch, and we decided to drive this time to Jamsil. We'd had enough of the metro the day before. Don't get me wrong, the public transport in South Korea is awesome, but an hour each way crammed in with a lot of people...isn't always pleasant. The drive was nice, and only took 20 minutes. The aquarium did not disappoint! The best parts were feeding the South Korean Carp, watching the otters race around, and playing with the penguins! The exhibits were all visually pleasing, and it was a nice walk through.

After we finished up exploring with the fish, we decided to treat ourself to a Brooklyn Burger for lunch. All in all, it was a very fun weekend at Lotte World. I'd love to go back and see more of the mall, and definitely go to the outdoor part of the theme park. It's all worth another visit, and definitely some place to take family and friends when they visit Korea!
