A Train Trip to Busan

Updated: Jul 31

My train trip to Busan did not involve any zombies, but it did involve a very Instagramable Aquarium, a lovely afternoon at the beach, shopping adventures, and fun nights out on the town with good food and drinks.

My friend Cat and I boarded our train in Seoul for a short trip down to Busan for the weekend. We arrived Saturday, August 14, to a rainy day, but that didn't slow us down. We spent the afternoon at the Sea Life Busan Aquarium. They had a lot of awesome displays, unique photo opportunities, a VR experience, and exhibits galore! So far this is my favorite aquarium in South Korea. We saw an otter feeding, waved at some sting rays, had sharks swim past us as we walked through observatory tunnels, and laughed at some penguins.

After that the sun came out, so we walked down the boardwalk to our hotel, freshened up, and went out to some local bars. It was the epitome of a Saturday Night out.

Sunday was even brighter, and became a wonderful opportunity for a beach day. We met up with one of my coworkers and his family, and enjoyed the waves and the sunshine. My coworker, Jordan, had a 'hero' moment. He aided the Korean lifeguards in saving a woman from drowning. We cheered from the shore. Thanks to Korea's open container laws, we had some beers in the sand. Then the rain came back.

We rinsed off and took the opportunity to have a late lunch. Then we all split up again. Cat and I went to Gukje Market and walked off our food. Sadly, my food didn't like me...which put a damper on the afternoon and gave way to an early evening.

Jordan and his family were kind enough to give us a ride back to Seoul on Monday morning. It was nice to take a mini road trip, and to see the countryside. We also got to experience Korean rest-stops. They are EPIC. We're talking traditional foods, street foods, snacks, fruit stands, and shopping. You and you wallet can get into a lot of trouble.

Overall it was a nice weekend, and I wish we had stayed longer. I can't wait till I have an opportunity to return. 10/10 recommend Busan for a fun beach weekend when you're visiting South Korea.
